The Twelfth (12th) Annual International Arbovirus Surveillance and Mosquito Control Workshop, which is sponsored by the Anastasia Mosquito Control and the United States Department Of Agriculture, jointly with their partner, the Center for Medical, Agricultural and Veterinary Entomology, headquarters at the University of Florida in Gainesville. One Hundred Sixty registered attendees will receive 20 CEU’s upon completion of the three day course.
The Workshop is being held at The Anastasia Mosquito Control District Operations Center, 500 Old Beach Road, St. Augustine, Florida on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, March 24 – 26, 2015.
This International Symposium has been held and sponsored by AMCD for the past 11 years here in St. Augustine. Researchers and Scientist will be attending from 7 countries and 40 of the United States.
Dr. Rui-de Xue, Ph.D., world renowned expert in Arbovirus Surveillance and Mosquito Control, has been the Director of Anastasia Mosquito Control District since 2002. It was under Dr. Xue’s leadership and supervision that the first Annual International Arbovirus Surveillance and Mosquito Control Workshop was held in St. Augustine, Florida.
In 2003 Dr. Xue realized critical training and the educational training of local mosquito control workers was not being provided. In 2003 a meeting was held with former Anastasia Mosquito Control District Director, Robert Betts and Daniel L. Kline from the United States Department of Agriculture, jointly with their partner, the Center for Medical, Agricultural and Veterinary Entomology to discuss developing a regional workshop. In 2004, at Dr. Xue’s direction the First (1st) Annual International Arbovirus Surveillance and Mosquito Control Workshop was conducted in St. Augustine and has grown each year since.
This overwhelming task could not have been accomplished without the help of AMCD Commissioner Jeanne Moeller, Commissioner Janice Bequette, Commission Chairman Vivian Browning, Commissioner Gary Howell, and Commissioner Catherine Brandhorst. Dr. Xue’s power behind his leadership includes: Kay Gaines, Supervisor; Charlotte Hall, Administrative Assistant; Scott Hanna, CPA; Richard Weaver, Data Manager; Christopher Dibbs, Education Specialist; and numerous Field Research, Scientific Specialist and Associates.
