St. John’s County Commissioner Cindy Stevenson is considering a run for the House District 17 seat currently held by State Rep. Ronald “Doc” Renuart.
On Wednesday, Renuart said he “definitely” plans to seek the Senate seat vacated when Republican Sen. John Thrasher becomes Florida State University president. Until then, Thrasher is seeking re-election in November for Senate District 6.
The state university system’s Board of Governors expects to confirm Thrasher a few days after Nov. 4. If he wins re-election, then steps down to accept the FSU job, a special election will be called to fill Thrasher’s seat.
Stevenson, a native of Volusia County, has served as a Republican Commissioner in St. John’s County District 1 since 2004.
HD 17 covers parts of St. John’s County, including the city of St. Augustine. Senate District 6 includes St. Johns, Flagler and Putnam counties and part of Volusia County.
