AMCD Director and Commissioner to attend workshop “Protecting Florida from Dengue and Chikungunya…”

IRREC Ft. PierceReacting quickly to the CDC warning “New Mosquito Chikungunya Virus Threatens Florida,” Dr. Walter J. Tabachnick, Director/Professor, University of Florida IFAS, Florida Medical Entomology Laboratory scheduled the workshop “Protecting Florida from Dengue and Chikungunya through Control of Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus.”

The workshop will be held June 3-4, 2014. Hosted by the Florida Medical Entomology Laboratory of the University of Florida, IFAS, Vero Beach the workshop will be conducted at Indian River Research and Education Center, University of Florida, IFAS 2199 South Rock Road, Fort Pierce, FL 34945-3138.

Dr. Rudy Xue, Director and Ms. Jeanne Moeller, Commissioner, Anastasia Mosquito Control District, will participate with 130 fellow Florida Mosquito Control Professionals and County Health Professionals in the workshop “Protecting Florida from Dengue and Chikungunya through Control of Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus.” I am greatly pleased that Dr. Xue and Commissioner Moeller chose to participate in this very important conference and workshop.
Dr. Tabachnick indicates that this is not a sit back and listen type seminar. Each workshop and breakout group will have a strict agenda, including group assignments, led by a Facilitator, Recorder and Reporter in each breakout session group.
Each of the 130 participants will received background materials for advanced study on Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus control to mitigate dengue and Chikungunya. This information will enhance the participant knowledge in the subject matter to provide them with knowledge and skills for their presentation in the workshop and breakout sessions.
Thank you Dr. Xue and Commissioner Moeller for fighting so hard to protect the health of St. Johns County citizens and keeping our children, farm animals, equine and tourists safe, happy and health while living and visiting our beautiful county.
